Less controlled by anxiety. More present in your life.
You may have spent years trying to get rid of anxiety, fear, uncomfortable thoughts, or physical symptoms, only to find that the harder you fight them, the more space they take up in your life.
Dr. Faiwiszewski helps clients move beyond avoidance, build confidence in their ability to handle discomfort, and create a life that feels fuller, freer, and more aligned with what matters to them.
About Laura
Her work is especially attuned to the ways fear can live in the body—through medical trauma, health anxiety, phobias, chronic pain, or physical symptoms that do not simply disappear because you understand them logically. Drawing from ACT, mindfulness, hypnosis, EMDR, and other mind-body approaches, Laura helps clients build a different relationship with those experiences and move forward with greater trust in themselves.
What that usually looks like
- 01 You have an idea in a meeting or know what you want to say, but you rehearse it in your head, second-guess yourself, and stay quiet.
- 02 Pain, fatigue, digestive issues, dizziness, or other ongoing physical symptoms have made everyday plans feel unpredictable, leaving you constantly thinking about what your body might allow you to do that day.
- 03You feel like too much of your life is being shaped by what you are trying not to feel, think, or experience which makes it harder to be present for what matters most.
- 04You accomplish things you care about, but have trouble actually enjoying them because your mind is already focused on the next problem, fear, or uncertainty.
- 05You avoid doctor’s appointments, medical tests, blood draws, or even conversations about health because the fear feels overwhelming and you may spend days worrying about them beforehand.
“Instead of focusing on what is the matter with you, we focus on what matters to you.” *
How I Think About the Work
I take a collaborative approach to therapy, which means we work together to decide what feels most useful, in what order, and at what pace. When helpful, I may also collaborate with physicians, psychiatrists, or other providers involved in your care.
I often begin by helping you understand what you are experiencing and what may be underneath it. From there, I may integrate clinical hypnosis to build on your existing strengths and support greater mental and physical regulation. If unresolved experiences or trauma are continuing to drive the patterns you are struggling with, we may incorporate EMDR for deeper processing.
For some clients, particularly those with treatment-resistant depression, we may also consider ketamine-assisted psychotherapy (KAP) in partnership with an appropriate medical provider. Throughout our work, mindfulness is a common thread, alongside an ACT framework, helping you become more present with difficult thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations without letting them dictate how you live.
